Peace

I’ve heard a lot of people say that peace is a nice idea, but an impossible one. I believe that world peace is possible. However, to achieve this, it will take hard work, flexibility, and a great deal of open-mindedness. These three things are in very short supply in this world.

There are too many problems on this planet for any one country to solve. As single nations, we cannot prevent the ozone layer from completely depleting, nor can we stop the waste of this planet's valuable national resources; however, as a united group of people living on the same planet, we may be able to reverse the wanton destruction of our Earth.

We need to solve disagreements with words and treaties, not with weapons and murder. We need to free this world of the things that cause us not to think clearly, such as drugs and alcohol. Many people have said that this just can't be done. They say that this generation's druggies won't, but by educating the youth, the next generation will have fewer people addicted to brain-damaging substances, and the generation after that will have even fewer, and the chain will go on, until alcohol and drugs are virtually obliterated.

If we could just cooperate! By not giving a damn whether your neighbor is black, white or of any sex, race, creed, age or different political party, we can do this. We, today's youth, are the future of this country and we can achieve world peace.

School Life : Music Video Parody

In semester 5, all of the twelfth grades are given a task by Mr. Dindin, our musci teacher, to make a parody of a music video with all the classmates. I was excited because it's mean that I will go to many places with all my friends to shoot the video. But first, we have to decide what music video we're going to make.We voted and come to agreement that we will make a parody of Calvin Haris's Summer music video. We divided all the people in class to a few groups because we think it easier to shoot in groups because it is easier to arrange with all the schedules they got.

The first group that were went to shoot is the boys. The shooting took places at Stone Garden. We went there in the morning because we don't want to miss the sunrise, but with all the traffic, we didn't get the sunrise. But we could still make it works. Here are some photos when we were there

The shooting of the second group took places at nadya's house. The story was just a bunch of friends who spent their "summer" by watching movies at their house. I was there as the photographer with Fitsan. It was very exhausting because at one scene I have to spin around in the middle of the group but we were forgot to brought tripod. So I spin around literally to get the shot.

The third group, "the band",  took places at music studio. The story was me and my friends practices at studio to spent our summer. I'm on guitar, Ilham on drums, Megan on violin, Zen on bass, and Elin on keyboard. There's one shot that I have to jump while playing guitar and it was so cool, I felt like I'm an actual guitarist on rock band. It hurts my hand but I think it will be worth it.

The forth group were took places at Lapbal. The story was, Kevin and his friends were doing some workout. And this scene is the opening of the music video. Kevin was going trough his phone to find music while he going ready to jog. In this scene, there are some basketball too.

Last but not least, group number five, the last group. All of us gathered in Shara's house to have a party. Not just regular party, but pool party. Shara said that she will arranged the party with a party planner. We use GoPro to shoot under water, it was awesome. There's a lot of video that we took there.

Here's a link to the video. Please watch and like the video. Enjoy!

Urban Camprt

On Wednesday, 10th of June 2015, 11th grade of SMAN 3 Bandung followed the CAMPRT (scout program). First, we gathered in RINDAM at 7 a.m. After that, the scout constructor gave us some rules for this program. I was in Group 10 with my other 7 friends.
We must walked around Bandung on foot! First, I and my group went to Asia Afrika. We must took some photos in some places there. It was like a challenge that we must do. After from Asia Afrika, we moved to Braga. After that, we went to Dago (we must took some photos in Taman Jomblo, Taman Film, Borromeus). It was very tiring. After that, we moved to Museum Monumen Perjuangan. There, we did some task. We were all very tired:)) After from Museum Monumen Perjuangan, we moved to Museum Geologi. There, we did some quiz that we must did. It was difficult enough. After finished from Museum Geologi, we moved to Taman Pramuka (to do the navigation). In Taman Pramuka, we studied about how to use a compass. After that, we went back again to RINDAM at 4 p.m. It was very tiring but it was very useful for us! But, although tiring, I enjoyed the trip because my friends in my group are very nice!!!
Here are some photos that we took.

Braga

Braga Street (official name in Indonesian: Jalan Braga) is a small street in the center of Bandung, Indonesia, which was famous in 1920s as a promade street. Chic cafes, boutiques and restaurants with European ambiance along the street had made the city to attain the Paris of Java nickname. The street starts from a T-junction with the Asia-Afrika Street (or De Groote Postweg during the colonial times) to the north until the city council (balaikota), which was formerly a coffee warehouse.

The first name of the street was Karreweg. The city residents dubbed it Pedatiweg, from the Indonesian language of horse-drawn carriages (pedati), because it was a narrow street (about 10 m or 30 feet wide) that only carriages could pass through. The street was built only to connect the major Great Post Road with a coffee warehouse, owned by a Dutch coffee plantation owner Andries de Wilde (the warehouse is now the seat of the city administration or balaikota). In 1856, when Bandung was the capital of Priangan Regency, some colonial houses were built along the dirt road of Braga Street with their houses thatched with reeds, alang-alang grass or other straw materials.

In the 1900s, along with the Dutch East Indies government plan to move the capital from Batavia to Bandung, the government included Braga Street into part of town planning. In 1906, the city council began replacing stone by asphalt and applying a new rule of designing new buildings at the street. Art Deco buildings began to decorate the street and about 50% of which are still present with their original architecture.Starting from the south entrance, the Gedung Merdeka (Independence Building) stands at the corner, known as the venue of the 1955 Asian–African Conference. Built in 1895 as a clubhouse for the wealthy, the building was first named as the Concordia Society. The building was renovated twice in 1920 and 1928, the last of which was designed by two Dutch architects, Van Galen Last and C. P. Wolff Schoemaker. It is now used as a museum of the conference.

At the southeast corner of the cross-section between the Naripan Street, an eight-stories building is noticeable for its distinctive oceanwave style. Designed by Dutch architect A.F. Aalbers in 1936, the radical modern architecture building was used for the DENIS (De Eerste Nederlandsch-Indische Spaarkas or the First Dutch-Indies Savings) bank. Aalbers applied the Amsterdam School architectural style with its strong expressionism dialect, shown by the rounded curves along the horizontal side and one vertical façade in the middle, but he put also the modernist architecture for the interior design.

Maroon 5 - Lost Stars

Lost Stars Lyrics

Please don't see just a boy caught up in dreams and fantasies
Please see me reaching out for someone I can't see
Take my hand let's see where we wake up tomorrow
Best laid plans sometimes are just a one night stand
I'd be damned Cupid's demanding back his arrow
So let's get drunk on our tears and

God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young
It's hunting season and the lambs are on the run
Searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark?

Who are we? Just a speck of dust within the galaxy?
Woe is me, if we're not careful turns into reality
Don't you dare let our best memories bring you sorrow
Yesterday I saw a lion kiss a deer
Turn the page maybe we'll find a brand new ending
Where we're dancing in our tears and

God, tell us the reason youth is wasted on the young
It's hunting season and the lambs are on the run
Searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark?

I thought I saw you out there crying
I thought I heard you call my name
I thought I heard you out there crying
Just the same

God, give us the reason youth is wasted on the young
It's hunting season and this lamb is on the run
Searching for meaning
But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark?

I thought I saw you out there crying
I thought I heard you call my name
I thought I heard you out there crying

But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark?
But are we all lost stars, trying to light up the dark?

Marron 5 is definetly one of my favorite bands and this song is one of my favorites. This song tell us about a man who are in love with a girl but don’t want her to see just the bad side of him. The song’s lyrics really captured my emotions in that time and the music is very good. The harmony in this song
is perfect and let’s not forget the angelic voice of Adam Levine. This is most definitly the perfect lulaby before you sleep.

TURBUD

Day 1

On 20th-26th April 2015, me and the other 11th grader went to Bali. First we met at the train station. There, we took our luggage tag. After waiting for about 2 hours, we finally set off from Bandung. We enjoy the way to Surabaya because me and my friends have a good time on the train, we played, we chatted, we ate, and the other fun stuff.

Day 2

On 21st of April 2015, we were still in the train. I woke up in the morning and had a breakfast in the train. We had fried rice for breakfast. A few hours later, we arrived in Surabaya. When we arrived, we directly went to the bus based on the class. After that, we continued our trip to Bali. After spent a lot of time, we stopped in a restaurant to have a lunch. Then, we continued our trip.

When it was already at 6 of 7 pm, we stopped again in restaurant for having a dinner. When we already finished, we went to the harbor. We should use a ship so we can crossed from Java to Bali. It only took an hour more or less. When we already landed in Bali, we continued our journey to the capital city of Bali, Denpasar. Almost at 00.00, we arrived in Nirmala Hotel, but I didn’t stay in the hotel because my mom picked me up and take me to home.

Day 3

I woke up at 7.00 because I didn’t have to que for the bathroom like all my friends in the hotel. And then, I went to the hotel by motorcycle and after that to Tanjung Benoa with #32016. We arrived in the location at 8.30 a.m. In Tanjung Benoa, we can try so many water sports, such as banana boat, donut boat, parasailing, flying fish, diving, snorkeling, and many more. I had a plan that I want to try donut boat, parasailing, and flying fish.

After we arrived at Tanjung Benoa, we bought some tickets for water sports. I bought tickets for donut boat, parasailing, and flying fish with my friends. But we were disappointed because we couldn’t try a parasailing because the worker said there are some problem. So, we changed the parasailing to banana boat. And then we try banana boat. It was very fun! I liked it so much. After that, we try donut boat. It was so much fun and more challenging than banana boat. And then, we cancelled flying fish because I saw my friends tried it and I was afraid (it flied very high!). Thus, after I finished my water sport, I took some photos with my friends. Here are some photos that I took in Tanjung Benoa.

After from Tanjung Benoa, we went to Pudjamandala at 1 p.m and arrived at 1.30 p.m. There, we prayed Dzuhur. After all finished praying, we continued our way to Pandawa Beach. This beach is very beautiful and very clean. The sands are white. In Pandawa Beach, we played football game, kano, and many more. It was very very fun!

Another spot for today was Garuda Wisnu Kencana. It is a 240 hectares private cultural park on the Bukit Peninsula at the southern end of Bali. It is devoted to the Hindu god Vishnu, and his mount, Garuda, the mythical bird who is his companion. We gathered in front of the Wisnu Statue to take a picture with our classes. The next activity was watching the performance of Kecak Dance which is the story about Garuda Wisnu Kencana itself. It was a nice performance.

After finished watching tari kecak, we went back to the bus and continued our way to Jimbaran Bay to had a dinner. We arrived at the location at 7.20 p.m. There, we had a dinner near the beach. We watched some performance too. It was very amazing. And then there were so much fireworks there! And we also flying the lampions. It was very beautiful to see so many lampions flying in the night sky.
From Jimbaran, we came back to the hotel at 10.30 p.m. We were very tired but me and Opal bought some martabak for the class and after that I went back to my home.

Day 4

The next day, all of my friends were going to Panglipuran Village but not meJ I was in home because I thought that the event in Panglipuran Village would be so boring and it did. My friends said that it was the most boring event on TURBUD.
When my friends arrived at the hotel from Kintamani, I came back to the hotel to join MAKRAB. It was very interesting because we had been waiting for Makrab, because this Makrab’s theme was Neon Party! And in Makrab, we can know the winner of “Angket”. Besides, in makrab there were so many performances from our friends, such as Band3, Tiloe’s Theatre, and many more.
Makrab (Malam Keakraban) started at 7 p.m. at Nirmala Ballroom. We really enjoyed the moments because it was very awesome! We finished makrab at 11.30 p.m. After that, we came back to our room. But we didn’t sleep. We ordered McDonald’s and ate it at the late night! What a guilty pleasure rite? But we really enjoyed the moment because we ate it together with some friends from another rooms. Then, we came back to sleep at 2 a.m. What a tiring day.

Day 5

On 24th of April 2015, it was our last day in Bali. We got to bus and continued out trip to Krisna. Krisna is a famous souvenir store in Bali. When we arrived, we were not directly go to Krisna but we rode a transportation to Kuta Beach. When I already arrived in Kuta Beach, I just had a photo session with some of my friends and after that I went to Joger for shopping. I spent quite a lot of time to buy souvenir for my family. When I already finished, I got back to Krisna and bought some souvenir again. After that, I had a lunch on Krisna and also had a pray. And this is the last event I join in Turbud. Yeah, I didn’t go to Tanah Lot like all others because I didn’t planned to go back by bus. I stayed for 2 days more in Bali and go back to Bandung by plane.

And that’s all my TURBUD experience that I can tell you.

General Sherman Tree

The General Sherman is a giant sequoia (Sequoiadendron giganteum) tree located in the Giant Forest of Sequoia National Park in Tulare County, in the U.S. state of California. By volume, it is the largest known living single stem tree on earth. The General Sherman Tree is neither the tallest known living tree on Earth (that distinction belongs to the Hyperion tree, a Coast redwood), nor is it the widest (both the largest cypress and largest baobab have a greater diameter), nor is it the oldest known living tree on Earth (that distinction belongs to a Great Basin bristlecone pine). With a height of 83.8 meters (275 ft), a diameter of 7.7 m (25 ft), an estimated bole volume of 1,487 m3 (52,513 cu ft), and an estimated age of 2,300–2,700 years, it is nevertheless among the tallest, widest and longest-lived of all trees on the planet.
While the General Sherman is the largest currently living tree, it is not the largest tree known to humans. The Crannell Creek Giant, a coast redwood (Sequoia sempervirens) near Trinidad, California, is estimated to have been 15 to 25% larger than the General Sherman tree by volume. The tree was cut down in the mid-1940s. And another larger coast redwood, near 90,000 cu. ft., the Lindsey Creek tree, was reported in a 1905 Humboldt Times Standard article.

Univesity of Oxford

The University of Oxford (informally Oxford University or simply Oxford) is a collegiate research university located in Oxford,England. While having no known date of foundation, there is evidence of teaching as far back as 1096, making it the oldest university in the English-speaking world, and the world's second-oldest surviving university. It grew rapidly from 1167 when Henry II banned English students from attending the University of Paris. After disputes between students and Oxford townsfolk in 1209, some academics fled northeast to Cambridge, where they established what became theUniversity of Cambridge. The two "ancient universities" are frequently jointly referred to as "Oxbridge".The University is made up from a variety of institutions, including 38 constituent colleges and a full range of academic departments which are organised into four Divisions. All the colleges are self-governing institutions as part of the University, each controlling its own membership and with its own internal structure and activities. Being a city university, it does not have a main campus; instead, all the buildings and facilities are scattered throughout the metropolitan centre. Most undergraduate teaching at Oxford is organised around weekly tutorials at the self-governing colleges and halls, supported by classes, lectures and laboratory work provided by university faculties and departments. Oxford is the home of several notable scholarships, including the Clarendon Scholarship which was launched in 2001 and the Rhodes Scholarship which has brought graduate students to read at the university for more than a century. Oxford operates the largest university press in the world[13] and the largest academic library system in the United Kingdom.

Applying to Oxford
The deadline for applications for undergraduate degrees starting at Oxford in 2015 has now passed (it was 15 October 2014), and we cannot accept late applications. If you want to start an undergraduate degree here in 2016, you will need to apply by 15 October 2015.

UCAS application

If you want to study at Oxford, you need to apply a year before the start date of your course. The deadline is 6pm UK time on 15 October every year, and the application form is online at www.ucas.com.You will need to provide information about yourself, including a personal statement where you talk about your interest in the subject you’re applying for. There is also a place where a teacher or advisor needs to give you a reference. This is all submitted through an online form – no additional references, transcripts, or certificates are required or accepted.
Most people apply to Oxford before they have finished their final year of school or college. If this is the case for you, then your referee will need to provide you with predicted grades – where they say what they expect you to achieve in your A-levels (or equivalent qualifications). You may also need to register for a test or send in written work, depending on which course you are applying for.

Tests

For many courses, you need to take a test as part of your application –check your course page. You will need to register separately for the test, by a set date in October, and can normally sit the test in your school or college, or at a centre near your home.

Written work

For many courses, you need to send in written work as part of your application - check your course page. You should send something that you have produced as part of your normal school or college work, which has been marked by a teacher. We would expect each piece of written work to be no more than 2,000 words, and to receive it by 10 November. After you have submitted your application (and usually before the end of October), the college considering your application will get in touch to tell you how you should submit your written work. Most colleges will ask you to post your written work (unfolded), although some will accept it electronically. We can't return written work, so do make sure to keep a copy. What to sendYou should send written work that demonstrates your analytical, reasoning, language and writing skills, as appropriate for your chosen degree course. It must be original school or college work, marked by a teacher, and not re-written or corrected in any way. It may be typed or handwritten – as long as it is legible – and photocopies are acceptable. Individual course pages give more information about the best type of work to send and how long it should be, but no course will accept work longer than 2,000 words. If you are not sure what to send, or if you are concerned that you do not have suitable written work, you should contact the college that is considering your application.Extended essaysExtended essays for the International Baccalaureate, Extended Projects, or other longer pieces of work which exceed the 2,000 word limit are not acceptable as submitted written work. However, you may like to submit an extract from an extended essay. Also, if you mention your essay in your personal statement, tutors may like to discuss this with you at interview if your application is shortlisted.LanguageAll written work must be in English (except where required for Modern Languages). International students whose work is in a language other than English are asked to submit both the original work and their own translation into English.

Interviews at Oxford

There are lots of myths about interviews at Oxford, but really they're just conversations about your chosen subject - like a short tutorial. The interview plays a vital part in the selection procedure, but remember that the interview is just one aspect of your application. Tutors will also consider:
  • any admissions tests or written work required for your course
  • your examination results and predicted grades
  • your personal statement
  • the academic reference
Admissions tutors' video diariesWatch videos of a tutor’s-eye view of Oxford admissions interviews. With so many excellent candidates for each place at Oxford, it just isn’t possible to interview everyone. Tutors review each application before deciding on a shortlist in late November or early December. You will receive an email or letter indicating whether or not you have been invited for interview. You may not receive this until a week before the interviews are due to take place. If you have been invited, the letter will include practical details of your interview and further information. We recommend that you:
  • think about some basic questions that may be asked at the beginning of an interview and how you might answer them. For example, tutors may ask why you have chosen this particular subject, and why you want to study it at Oxford.
  • read widely around your chosen subject, including newspaper articles, websites, journals, magazines and other publications.
  • take a critical view of ideas and arguments that you encounter at school or college, or in the media – think about all sides of any debate.
  • be prepared to show some background knowledge of the subject, if you are applying for a course not normally studied at school or college, such as Medicine, Law, Biochemistry or Oriental Studies. However, you will not be expected to have a detailed understanding of specific or technical topics. For example, you may be asked what role your subject plays in society.
  • re-read your personal statement, and any written work that you have submitted, thinking about how you might expand on what you wrote.
  • organise a practice interview for yourself. This could be with a teacher or someone else who is familiar with your subject, but preferably not someone you know very well. This will help you to get some more experience of talking about yourself and your work in an unfamiliar environment.
  • remind yourself of the selection criteria for your chosen subject.
Interviews take place in December, after the end of term. Accommodation and meals will be provided free of charge by the college which has invited you. Although most students will have returned home for Christmas, each college makes sure that there are plenty of undergraduates around to help and advise you. It’s a good idea to bring a book with you or some school or college work to do, as you will only spend a relatively small amount of your time in Oxford actually in interviews. You can also spend time with the other interview candidates as well as current undergraduates. Please wear whatever clothes you feel comfortable in. Most tutors will not dress formally, and it is not necessary for you to do so. We recommend that you bring copies of any written work you have submitted, and a copy of your personal statement, as tutors may refer to these during your interview. You will also need to bring your own personal items such as toiletries. It is advisable that you bring a mobile telephone, along with its charger, so that the college can contact you, if they need to.
A good deal of the teaching in an Oxford college takes place in small classes or tutorials, and your interviewers – who may be your future tutors – are assessing your ability to study, think and learn in this way. This will depend on how carefully you listen to questions, and how sensibly you answer them. You may be interviewed by two or more tutors at a time, each being an expert in some aspect of the degree course for which you are applying. If you are applying for a joint course, with two or more subjects, you will be interviewed by tutors representing each of the subjects, separately or at the same time. The interview is designed to assess your academic abilities and, most importantly, your academic potential. Tutors are looking for your self-motivation and enthusiasm for your subject. Decisions are not based on your manners, appearance or background, but on your ability to think independently and to engage with new ideas beyond the scope of your school or college syllabus. In many ways, your interview will be like a mini tutorial. If you don’t know the answer to a question, you may wish to explain that you haven’t covered that topic yet, but do try to work out the answer if you can. Many questions are designed to test your ability to apply logic and reason to an idea you may never have encountered before. The questions may seem difficult, but don’t worry: many of the topics you will cover do not have simple ‘right’ or ‘wrong’ answers. Interviewers are not trying to make you feel ignorant or catch you out, but to stretch you in order to assess your potentialDecisionsShortlisted candidates will be told whether or not their application has been successful on Wednesday 7 January 2015. Colleges will send either a letter or an email to arrive on this date.Tutors will make a decision based on:
  • your interview
  • any admissions tests or written work required for your course
  • your examination results and predicted grades
  • your personal statement
  • the academic reference
We receive many thousands of applications each year, and sadly many excellent candidates will not be offered places. If you are made an offer, then it may be made by a particular college, or it may be 'open'. If you are currently studying for qualifications, then the offer will probably be 'conditional' on you achieving certain results; otherwise it will be 'unconditional', and your place is guaranteed. Open offersIf you get an open offer, your place at Oxford is guaranteed (as long as you meet any conditions attached to the offer). However, the college you will go to has not yet been specified, and will not be decided until after your final examination results have been published. Conditional offersIf you have not yet finished your final examinations, then you will be able to take up your place at Oxford only if you achieve certain grades. We usually ask for A*A*A - AAA, depending upon the course, at A-level, or equivalent qualifications. The offer may specify that you need to achieve certain grades in particular subjects and may include a requirement for evidence of proficiency in the English language. For students holding a conditional offer from OxfordIf you have met all the conditions of your offer, congratulations! Your place is assured. If you received an open offer and have met the conditions of that offer, please remember that you may still be placed at a different college from the one which underwrote your offer. You may not know which college this is until after the A-level results are confirmed in August. If you have not met all the conditions of your offer (for example if you have not achieved the required grades) your college will make a final decision regarding your offer once all A-level results have been confirmed in August. Please contact your college if you require any further information. For students not holding a conditional offer from OxfordOxford does not participate in UCAS Clearing, Extra or Adjustment. Further information about places available at other institutions can be found on the UCAS website at www.ucas.com.If you have achieved top grades, you may wish to apply to Oxford University to start your studies next year. However, please remember that even excellent results will not guarantee you a place, and if you are holding an offer from another university, you may wish to focus on your studies there ?Shortlisting: who gets invited to interview Preparing for an interview Coming to Oxford The interview On results day
